Black-capped Chickadee

2/21/20

Elaine Ingraham of Simsbury sent this week’s photo. Jay Kaplan, director of Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton, writes “The black-capped chickadee is a favorite backyard feeder bird. Year-round residents, they nest in tree cavities, and occasionally, will use a bird house. They are particularly fond of sunflower seeds. Watch them as they fly to a nearby branch, hold a seed in their feet and peck the shell off with their bills.”
