Red Fox

Dave Kubas of Canton sent this photo and writes, “Here’s a photo of a juvenile red fox taking a drink out of the bird bath in my yard and a photo of the fox looking at me.” According to Jay Kaplan, director at Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton, “Did you know the red fox shown here was not Connecticut’s original fox. When the Europeans arrived, the gray fox was the only fox in our area. As the forests fell before the plow, the gray fox disappeared. Red foxes were originally brought in for the purpose of fox hunting and this is the fox that most people see today.
