School honors veterans with car parade

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the cancelation of myriad events this year, but it didn’t prevent Canton Intermediate School from honoring the town’s veterans on Veterans Day.

Instead of the usual indoor services, CIS hosted a car parade for veterans, who drove their cars in a loop around the school playground, with students and staff cheering and holding up signs of thanks as they lined the fence.

The parade circled the playground three times – once as the veteran’s name and branch of service was announced over a loud speaker, once as student musicians played, and once as the crowd cheered and thanked the veterans for their service.

Each veteran - there were about 40 who took part in the parade - was given a gift bag with hand-crafted items from CIS students.
