SIMSBURY – The Board of Selectmen is looking to hire Marc Nelson who is currently serving as Mayor and City Administrator in Poughkeepsie, NY as the town’s next town manager.

“The Board of Selectmen is happy to share that we have entered into contract negotiations with Marc Nelson to bring him on as Simsbury's new Town Manager,” First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis said in a statement on Sept. 28. “This decision was made by consensus last night and was unanimous across the 6 members of the Board. This process involved two rounds of detailed interviews, a thorough background and reference check by our consultant, an interview with the department heads, a meeting with members of town staff and a public reception. All of the feedback we received helped us confirm our decision, and we thank everyone for participating.”

The evening prior to the Sept. 27 Board of Selectmen meeting, Nelson participated in a public reception at the Simsbury Fire District headquarters on Hopmeadow Street. Approximately 30 people came out to meet the finalist and learn more about his background, which includes several years as tax collector in Hartford.

The Town Manager’s position is one of intense focus in town after the departure of Maria Capriola on May 1. She started the role in January of 2018 and was the town’s first Town Manager, following a charter change.

Lee Erdmann is serving as interim town manager.

More to come.
